SWABI: One person was killed and two others were injured in a clash that ensured during cockfighting in Mohallah Khamalkhel of Maneri Bala village here on Tuesday, police said.
When contacted, eyewitnesses said that two persons had brought their roosters to a local hujra (common guest house) and the people also gathered for watching the fight.
They said the participants also indulged in gambling and it was decided that owner of the losing rooster would pay a certain amount of money to the owner of winning one.
They said the situation turned worse during the cockfight due to heated arguments over winning that led to opening of fire.
When contacted, city police station SHO Ajab Durrani confirmed that the clash took place over cockfighting. As a result, Saeedullah Khan and his brother Abdullah and a spectator, identified as Shahroom Khan, were injured. Saeed succumbed to his injuries on way to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, while the other two were admitted.
The police have registered an FIR against Sher Hassan and his son Abid Ali on the complaint of injured Abdullah.
Meanwhile, a man was killed over a petty issue in Topi city on Tuesday.
Injured Nauman Khan told police before his death that Adnan Khan attacked him with a dagger after exchange of hot words. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
LAID TO REST: Another jawanof Pakistan Army, who embracedmartyrdom in a terrorist attack in Waziristan, was laid to rest with military honours here on Tuesday.
The jawan identified as Adnan Khan hailed from Sher Ali Kothy area of Gohati village.
The funeral prayer was attended by civil and military officers, local politicians and officials of the district administration. A floral wreath on behalf of the Chief of ArmyStaff was placed on his grave. A day before, army jawan Anwar Khan, who also embraced martyrdom, was laid to rest in Maneri village.
