Published October 28, 2005

SWABI, Oct 27: The district zakat department will give Rs500 each to 3,122 poverty-stricken people in 55 union councils of Swabi district before Eidul Fitr. There are 189 district committees in Swabi. Sources said the chairman of each of the committees had already been informed that they should collect their respective cheques from the district zakat chairman’s office and prepare a detailed list of deserving people in their respective areas for approval.

About Rs1.56 million has been set aside for the purpose, sources said. The chairmen and members have been ordered to disburse the money before Eid so that people could purchase items for their near and dear ones.

The district zakat department has also sanctioned Rs1.25 million for a scholarship fund for poor students. Students from primary and higher secondary institutions would benefit from this scheme.
