Three die after drinking tainted liquor

MUZAFFARGARH: Three people died allegedly after drinking tainted liquor here in Behari Colony on Sunday.

As per police, three friends – Sabir Hussain, Koura Khan and Parvaiz Khan – drank liquor that was tainted. As a result, Sabir died on the spot, while Khan and Parvaiz fell unconscious and were shifted in critical condition to the district headquarters hospital for treatment where they too expired.

Police sources said they had bought the tainted liquor from a notorious bootlegger operating in the city area, known as Machhar.

City police have started investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the families of the deceased men appealed to the district police officer to order action against the bootleggers to avert such incidents in future.

DROWNINGS: A minor girl and her brother allegedly drowned in Puran Canal near Morian Stop, while Rescuers 1122 divers with the help of locals retrieved their bodies after hectic efforts from the canal near Ali Pur.

As per Rescue 1122 officials, nine-year-old Ayesha, daughter of Aslam, a resident of Mauza Yaki Wala, was playing with her minor brother Zain (6) on the bank of Puran Canal near Morian Stop when they accidentally fell into the canal.

On knowing about the incident, the children’s father and other locals jumped into the canal to look for them but of no avail.

On being called up, a team of Rescue 1122 divers reached the spot and launched a search operation in the canal.

After hours-long efforts, the divers retrieved the children’s bodies from the canal near Ali Pur and handed them over to their family.
