DERA GHAZI KHAN: The wildlife department has foiled an attempt to catch and transport injured rare hog deer by the poachers near Taunsa barrage.

Wildlife team and personnel of Punjab Rangers deployed at Taunsa barrage stopped a motorcyclist who along with his accomplice was transporting injured hog deer.

The motorcyclists managed to flee after dropping the hog deer who was already critically injured.

Wildlife department Divisional head Naveed Tariq told Dawn that poachers had caught injured hog deer from upstream near Taunsa Barrage.

He further said the injured hog deer was rescued but later it succumbed to injury.

He said the cause of death was head injury according to autopsy report of hog deer.

ANF: A team of the Anti-Narcotics Force foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of hash during checking of truck near Sakhi Sarwar toll plaza.

The team stopped a truck and during checking recovered a huge quantity of hash concealed in a portion of the truck. As many as 180kg hash was confiscated by the ANF.

Drug smugglers Allah Ditta and Samar Hussain, residents of Multan, were arrested by ANF.

SEALED: Five banks, four markets, two mobile franchises and dozens of shops were sealed in Rajanpur district for nonpayment of professional tax and property tax.

Director Excise Muhammad Asif Khan told Dawn that department had launched campaign against defaulters of property and professional taxes at divisional level.

He said five banks and other properties had been sealed. He claimed that the department had recovered Rs2.3 million.
