BAJAUR: Unknown motorcyclists shot dead an Awami National Party local leader and injured two others, including his son, in an attack on his car in Bajaur tribal district here on Monday.

Party workers and Rescue 1122 officials said the incident occurred at about 5pm in Haji Lawang area, some eight kilometres from the district headquarters, Khar.

They said Malik Abdul Ghani Khan along with his son was going to his home in Mata Shah area of Salarzai tehsil after attending a party meeting in Khar when unidentified motorcyclists ambushed his car.

According to them, the ANP leader, his son and a passerby were seriously wounded in the incident. They were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar.

However, the 55-year-old elder couldn’t survive due to excessive bleeding.

The party and family sources told Dawn that Malik Abdul Ghani was a member of the ANP’s provincial working committee.

The party sources said his son identified as Shah Khalid, 30, was president of ANP’s Salarzai tehsil chapter.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

The police said that they had launched a hunt to arrest the culprits.
