LAHORE, Oct 25: A ban on the parking of private vehicles inside the Civil Secretariat, lack of adequate parking space in the LDA Complex and Aiwan-i-Adl are the major reasons that make it almost impossible to even walk on the Court Street during working hours.
Massive increase in the volume of visitors to the office of the district coordination officer on Dev Samaj Road, shifting of almost all judges offices from the district courts premises to the Aiwan-i-Adl are the other reasons that cause traffic jams on the Lower Mall strip from the Civil Secretariat to the Postmaster-General building during the peak hours.
The Court Street houses the LDA Complex, the Punjab Election Commission and the Evacuee Trust Property Board. The Dev Samaj Road has the DCO office and three educational institutions — the Government Vocational Teachers Training School, the Ahmad Hasan Polytechnic School for Electricians and the Government Higher Secondary School for Girls.
Though both the LDA Complex and Aiwan-i-Adl have parking basements, these cannot accommodate vehicles of all the officials and judicial officers.
Adjacent to the DCO office, a plot measuring two kanal or so has been made a parking lot but it is quite difficult to reach there in a four-wheeler from 9am to 12noon.
Four-wheelers can be seen parked on both sides of the Court Street up to the gate of the Crescent Hostel of the Islamia College Civil Lines, and on the strip between the Civil Secretariat and the LDA Complex, on Dev Samaj Road up to the gate of the Government Higher Secondary School for Girls during working hours.
“Double parking by litigants accompanying police officials and some lawyers minimizes the space on the road between Aiwan-i-Adl and the PMG building,” a traffic police constable said.—Staff Reporter
