PESHAWAR, Oct 24: A 15-year-old girl has accused her brother-in-law of criminally assaulting her. Police officials said on Monday that the girl, Sumaira, of Wazir Colony, told the Faqirabad police that she had gone out of her house on Sunday to get some food for Sehri when the accused who lived in Gulbahar Colony No. 2, kidnapped her on gun-point. She alleged that the accused took her to nearby fields in Budhu Samar area and assaulted her. After registration of a case, police arrested the accused, Taj Bar, and sent Sumaira for medical examination.
According to DSP M. Afridi, the accused rejected the charge and also claimed that he was not related to the girl.
Mr Afridi said that Sumaira had come to the police station at 11.30 am on Sunday along with her mother and complained that Taj Bar, the husband of her elder sister Saira, had come to their house at Sehri time and beaten her up.
And at 7.30 pm she and her mother came to the police station again and claimed that she had been raped by her brother-in-law and that police registered the case and immediately arrested the accused. The two women claimed that Saira had married Taj Bar but left his house about three years ago after developing differences. However, the accused stated that she was not related to the family and also rejected the rape allegation.
Taj Bar was also sent for medical examination and reports were expected in three days, said the DSP.
According to police officials, Sumaira’s father was in jail on the charge of selling his daughter to a person from Punjab and that she had escaped from there after some time. They also said that the complainant’s mother had been convicted in the past of involvement in unethical activities.
The DSP said that if the allegation levelled by Sumaira proved incorrect then the complainants could be charged with filing a false case. “It all depends on the medical report,” the DSP added.
