PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed the quarters concerned to take concrete steps to put Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP) on ground.

He was chairing a meeting to review progress made so far on the project. Provincial minister for local government Akbar Ayub, administrative secretaries of concerned departments and other relevant authorities attended the meeting.

The chief minister said that all the pre-requisites, including acquisition of land, should be completed immediately to start physical work on all the sub-schemes planned under the project. He made it clear that no delay would be tolerated in implementation of this scheme.

“Provision of improved municipal services and other civic facilities to citizens is one of the top priorities of the provincial government,” he said.

The meeting reviewed progress so far made on the project. It was stated that KPCIP was being launched with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank in five major cities of the province, including Peshawar, Kohat, Abbottabad, Mardan and Swat.

The purpose of the project is to improve the quality of life of citizens through enhanced municipal infrastructure and strengthened institutional capacities of municipal setups in the selected cities.

It was stated that under the project 23 sub-projects had been planned, including provision of drinking water through replacement and construction of water supply network, development of green spaces, construction of sewerage system and other civic services.
