KARACHI, Oct 23: Riding on the crest of a wave three-year-old colt, Tharkyee, came up with flying colours to win his fourth consecutive race in the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

With three wins already under his belt, he was bookies’ favourite and obliged punters by crossing the finishing post four and a half length ahead of the nearest opponent, four-year-old filly, Ouija Board.

Four-year-old filly, Countess Mah Again, settled down with third place in the concluding race that featured 11 contestants.

Tharkyee was piloted home by riding boy Fahim K who completed his double. Earlier, he rode home six-year-old mare, Ultimate Victory, in the third race of afternoon.

Another riding boy Waheed Baran shared the day’s honours with his contemporary by performing a splendid double.

First, he sprinted home seven-year-old Deniro in the fourth race while his winner in the second was three-year-old filly, Voo Doo Doll.

Trainer Allah Judrio also stole the limelight when he sent a brace of winners. His winners were Laurel, Ultimate Victory, Voo Doo Doll and Tharkyee.

Eight-year-old Laurel who was ranked outsider surprised the pundits by winning the opener. He was chased by chestnut I’M So Happy and nine-year-old Taneez for the second and third position.

In the absence of fancied Zidane, two-year-old colt, Mir Sab, picked up the spoils in the second race which had a field of six runners. The former did not enter the competition.

Chestnut Moon Raker and debutant filly Abhi Abhi had to be content with the next two places.

The third race ended in a blaze of glory for six-year-old mare, Ultimate Victory. She won by three lengths.

She was followed by five-year-old mare, She Is Lady and ten-year-old mare, Khush Nazar.

Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s seven-year-old, Deniro, pulled off an upset by winning the fourth race. The second place went to Al Zarrar while Rahil Pearl was third.

Prime Panther, a thirteen-year-old horse, clinched the fifth race while three-year-old filly, Voo Doo Doll lived up to her reputation by crowning the sixth.

The next race meeting will be held after Eid-ul-Fitr on Nov 6.
