KARACHI, Oct 23: The Sindh Education and Literacy Minister, Dr Hamida Khuhro, has dispelled an impression that the education department has held the Language Act 1972 in abeyance and said that Sindhi along with Urdu would be taught at all levels up to intermediate in the province.

Talking to a private TV channel here on Sunday, Dr Khuhro said under this act in question, Urdu Salees (Simple) for the Sindh-speaking and Sindhi Salees for the Urdu-speaking students was being taught at all the levels and only teaching of Sindhi Salees at the college level had remained in abeyance for 32 years.

“Recently the matter was revised by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and now Sindh chief minister has taken decision that in class XI also Sindhi Salees will be taught to the Urdu-speaking students” she clarified.

The education minister alleged that the opposition was making it an issue because after their defeat in the recently held local body polls they needed an issue.—PPI
