KARACHI: The Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) the other day feted the Youth hockey club for winning the all Sindh Moenjodaro Inter-Club Hockey Championship at Larkana recently.
The colourful ceremony was held at the KHA Sports Complex and was graced by retired Major General Tariq Halim Suri who has succeeded the late retired vice-admiral Syed Arifullah Hussaini as the Patron-in Chief.
His nomination was approved by KHA Executive Committee which includes Olympians Samiullah, Hanif Khan, Jamil Ajmed Khan, Ahmed Alam, Gulfraz Ahmed Khan, Aijazuddin, Dr S.A. Majid, Javeed Iqbal and Haider Hussain.
The KHA disbursed Rs 200,000 among the player for winning Inter-club event. The prize money was awarded by Secretary Sports Sindh Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah.
Speaking on the occasion General Suri thanked KHA for his nomination and vowed to take it to new heights. General Suri, who used to play very fine hockey during his heydays, lauded the role of Karachi which has produced a large number of Olympians and Internationals during the last 74 years.
He appreciated the untiring work of KHA Secretary Haider Hussain for revival of the game. PHF Director Admin M. Junaid and Abuzar Umrao presented a bouquet to Gen Suri on be half of PHF President retired Brig Khalid Sajjad Khokar and Secretary Asif Bajwa.
Earlier Fatiha was offered for Arifullah Hussaini who expired last year.
