THE trend of late marriages among Pakistani women, especially in urban areas, is increasing at an alarming pace. While there is nothing wrong with having aspirations for growing professionally and searching for companions who are more settled with decent jobs, it makes one wonder if the search always results in the desired results.

Unlike the West, we live in a society which has a different set of values. The moment a girl crosses a certain age, she is bombarded with questions pertaining to marriage.

It is also why many parents keep their daughters home-bound, hoping for them to marry someone of their liking. This is wrong. But so is waiting for the ‘right’ proposal until one ends up not marrying at all.

We need to educate our society about the importance and benefits of marriages at the right time. This is not to deny the fact that women are the pillars of any nation and play an important role in its growth.
