RAWALPINDI, Jan 22: Pakistan Navy is fully prepared to defend the country against any misadventure by India, Vice Admiral Fayazur Rehman said here on Tuesday.

He was talking to reporters after attending a function organized by the Bahria Foundation College, Rawalpindi. He said all the necessary equipment and weapons were available with the navy.

The vice chief said the navy had been holding regular exercises and its war preparations were always up to the mark. He, however, was reluctant to comment when asked whether any special exercises were being held due to the tense situation on the borders with India. Unlike army and air force, exercises are the regular feature in the navy, he added.

He said the chances of war with India had almost, diminished, but “our preparedness should be excellent”. The more the readiness, the less the chances of war, he said.

Speaking about the college, he greatly appreciated its academic and extra-curricular activities.

The college principal, Zarina Bakhtiyar, presented the annual report. “We not only pay attention to the academic skills of students, but also their extra-curricular activities to enhance their moral, physical and spiritual qualities”, she said.

The students presented colourful skits, symbolizing prevailing poverty and illiteracy in the country, and the plight of Muslims, especially in Chechniya, Palestine and Kashmir. One of the skit reflected the misuse of internet. It asked the parents not to leave their children at the mercy of computer and internet, which could deviate them from the right path.

Later, prizes were distributed among the children who showed good performance in academic and other activities.
