UNITED NATIONS, Oct 21: To galvanize the international community, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Thursday in a personal letter written to heads of States and Governments has sought additional funds towards the UN Flash Appeal for Pakistani earthquake victims saying “we must not let them down”.

He asked the world governments to participate in the UN donors’ conference in Geneva on Oct 26 on a ministerial level “to review our collective response”.

“The people and Government of Pakistan are faced with an extraordinary challenge. We need extraordinary effort to support them. I hope that you will join us in responding to the urgent needs of Pakistani citizens who are waiting for our help. We must not let them down,” wrote Mr Annan.

He said: “I believe that this humanitarian operation requires the same sense of global solidarity and commitment that we saw in the wake of the tsunami.”
