Jica to assist in health projects

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) will provide assistance and technical manpower in establishing rehabilitation training centres and vocational training institutes in Pakistan.

This was stated by the vice-president of Jica, Kenjiro Izumi, on Tuesday during a meeting with Federal Health Minister Dr Abdul Malik Kasi.

He said various teams would visit Pakistan in February and March to identify numerous other social welfare projects.

Kenjiro Izumi, who is currently on a visit to Pakistan, also discussed with the minister the ongoing projects in the health sector started with the grants of Jica.

The health minister, Dr Abdul Malik Kasi, appreciated Jica for establishing a child and mother hospital in Islamabad and its continued monetary assistance to meet the operational cost.

He also thanked Jica for establishing a gigantic Nursing and Paramedical Training Institute in Islamabad. Dr Kasi also lauded the assistance of grants for repair of the Children Hospital, which was damaged due to flood in Islamabad in last monsoon.

He also briefed the delegation on the working of National Institute for Handicapped (NIH). The vice-president, Jica, will attend the forthcoming Human Resource Development Forum.

The health secretary, Ejaz Rahim, also briefed the delegation on the projects to control TB, TT and polio.—APP
