THE government has been spending billions of rupees annually on development projects, including roads, infrastructure and railways to help facilitate movement of people and goods. But these projects are sometimes not aligned with the needs and safety of inhabitants and other ground realities which lead to trouble and create disruptions for the common man.
One such project is the Lahore Mor area which separates the metropolitan city from rural and industrial areas encompassing a population of more than 500,000 and also providing some important routes to other cities.
This road has no underpass or overhead bridge for the pedestrians who have to cross this road while literally risking their lives.
In fact, it has a U-turn which causes more inconvenience to the people. Since the road has heavy and fast traffic, it induces a sense of fear among the pedestrians. Every year many precious lives are lost, including those of children and old people.
The Punjab government must direct the relevant departments to build a safe pathway for pedestrians to minimise the risk to their lives while crossing this road.
