SUKKUR, Oct 21: Hundreds of acres of agricultural land came under water when a 20-foot-wide breach occurred in Mahar wah, near Khanpur Mahar, Ghotki district, on Wednesday night and Thursday.

As a result of the breach, standing crops in vast areas were inundated.

Villagers Sharif Gadani, Ali Gohar and others claimed that the breach occurred due to tremendous water pressure.

They said that no irrigation official turned up to plug the breach.

NAZIM: District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has urged the heads of various nation-building departments to continue the policy of joint efforts and cooperation to make Sukkur a model district of the province. According to an official hand-out issued on Thursday, he said this at an introductory meeting with the heads of various nation-building departments.

He urged them to work with honesty and dedication to resolve basic problems of people on priority.

He said the district government had already announced a donation of Rs one million for the earthquake victims of Azad Kashmir and the NWFP while efforts were underway to collect more funds.

On the occasion, he lauded the efforts and sentiments of the people of Sukkur who generously donated to the earthquake victims.

PML-N: A leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has said that despite passage of two weeks, the government still have not reached in all earthquake-stricken areas where bodies are still buried under the debris.

According to a press statement issued here on Thursday, the city president of the PML-N, Haji Ameer Ali, stated this while inaugurating a primary unit of the party in union council-6, Shah Latif Chowk, on Wednesday night.

He said the PML-N collected an amount of Rs one million and handed over the cheque to the district president Abdul Razzaq Aasi who had left for the quake-hit areas.
