PESHAWAR: Expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation in the merged tribal districts, Mohsin Dawar, a member of the National Assembly, has called upon President Arif Alvi to convene a joint session of parliament to discuss the situation in the region, especially in North and South Waziristan districts.

The MNA from North Waziristan stated in his letter that the cancer of terrorism had a tendency to spread throughout the country, affecting the security situation as well as the economy.

“The Pakhtuns of this region have suffered greatly over the last few decades and it is extremely important that their voice is not only heard but that their concerns are addressed immediately,” he said, adding that their demand for the protection of rights as guaranteed by the Constitution merits urgent notice and action by the state.

“The security situation in the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in general, and in the districts of North and South Waziristan, in particular, continues to deteriorate,” Mohsin Dawar said.

He pointed out that the regrouping of Taliban factions in these areas posed a threat to the country’s peace and security.

In his two-page letter, the legislator recalled that over the last few months, the Utmanzais in North Waziristan, the Ahmadzai Wazirs in South Waziristan and the locals in Jani Khel, Bannu, had held large gatherings to convey their concerns to the state.
