SARGODHA: A man surrendered to police after shooting his opponent dead in front of the special court of the additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday morning.

The deceased, Qamar Anwar, had reportedly killed Manoo Virk, a brother of the suspect Aamer, in 2019 and was on trial in the special court of BhalwalAdditional District and Sessions Judge Malik Tanveer Awan. On Wednesday, Aamer allegedly gunned down Anwar in front of the court and turned himself in to police.

Aamer disclosed that due to the strict security measures in the tehsil court, he had thrown his pistol into the lawns of the court at midnight and picked it up in the morning to avenge his brother’s killing.

Anwar’s family kept traffic blocked for a couple of hours by placing his body on Thana Chowk.

It has become commonplace in Bhalwal tehsil for people to kill their opponents in court premises located just a few yards from a police station. Four people were killed in the Bhalwal courts last year.

SOP VIOLATION: People visiting the coronavirus vaccination centre at the arts council openly flout the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and pose a threat to the lives of those around them, Health Chief Executive Officer Dr Samiullah told this correspondent here on Wednesday.

He said the centre was attracting an unprecedented rush and despite repeated requests, visitors didn’t pay heed to the instructions by the staff and police. He said although the staff was working efficiently, he personally visited the centre regularly.

A visitor, Ghulam Muhammad, claimed that the staff and security personal were very aggressive and kept them waiting unnecessarily. He claimed that there were no proper arrangements and the centre was unable to meet the requirements of the people coming to get vaccinated.

He stressed the need for increasing human resource and setting up more vaccination centres in the city, otherwise, he apprehended, this centre could prove fatal to the public instead of saving their lives.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 positive is increasing and at present, over 70 patients were admitted to the isolation centre of the DHQ teaching hospital. Out of these, 20 were in critical condition and nine have died in the last two days.

Hospital spokesperson Dr Sikandar Warraich said people must observe the SOPs, wear masksand maintain social distancing. People must approach a hospital without delay after experiencing symptoms of the virus.
