KARACHI, Oct 19: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has acquired helicopter service to reach remote areas of Azad Kashmir in Bagh and Garhi Dopatta for providing medical and relief assistance.

The Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation, the MQM’s welfare wing, commissioned helicopter services to reach the so far inaccessible areas of Azad Kashmir and set up field hospitals in Bagh and Garhi Dopata.

Bishop for Sindh and Balochistan Sadiq Daniel presented to the provincial Industries Minister, Adil Siddiqui, a cheque of Rs540,000 and relief goods worth more than Rs1 million towards the Haq Parast Fund.

At Garhi Dopata medical camp, set up at the Para Chinar Government High School, a team of 19 MQM doctors and 12 volunteers treated over 300 victims on the very first day of its commissioning. In-charge of the MQM coordination committee in Pakistan Mr Anwar Alam and Federal Minister Babar Ghori supervized the medical camp.

During the past two days, the MQM has despatched 16 truckloads of medicines and relief items and yet another team of 12 doctors has been sent to the quake-ravaged areas.

Adviser to the CM on Information Salahuddin Haider saw off the fresh batch of doctors at the Karachi airport on Wednesday evening.

The hospital at Bagh, which had remained inaccessible until eight days after the quake hit the northern areas of the country, a second field hospital has been established by the MQM.
