21 MNAs, 71 MPAs suspended

ISLAMABAD, Oct 18: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday suspended 21 members of the National Assembly and 71 provincial legislators for their failure to submit the mandatory annual statements of their assets and liabilities on time.

Out of 21 members of the National Assembly, eight are from Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), eight from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, three from the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and one from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Two members have resigned after being elected district nazim during the recent local government elections.

These members have ceased to function as members of their respective assemblies with effect from Oct 15, 2005 under Section 42A (3) of the Representation of Peoples Act 1976, till statements of assets and liabilities are submitted to the Election Commission, an announcement issued by the commission said.

“Till the cause of suspension is not removed, these members cannot participate in the proceedings of the respective assemblies,” said PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar, adding that members had also been barred from receiving allowances. However, Mr Babar said they could continue to get their salaries as members of the assemblies.

The names of the suspended MNAs from MMA are: Shujaul Mulk, Maulana Attaur Rehman, Mufti Ibrar Sultan, Akhunzada M. Sadiq, Qari Muhammad Yousaf, Qari Abdul Baees Siddiqui, Syed Bakhtiar Maani and Maulana Ghulam Muhammad Sadiq.

Suspended PML-Q members: Raja Muhammad Asad Khan, Malik Muhammad Saifullah Tiwana, Muhammad Sanaullah Khan, Rana Umar Nazir, Chaudhry Mehdi Hasan Bhatti, Rana Tariq Javed, Tahir Bashi Cheema and Makhdoom Syed Ahmad Alam Anwar and Dr Saira Tariq elected on reserved seats for women.

Likewise Azhar Ahmad Khan Yousafzai and Mrs Nasim Akhtar Chaudhry (reserved seats for women) are from PPP while Raja Mohammad Asad Khan is from PML-N.

Both Mian Jalil Ahmed Sharkpuri and Mian Mumtaz Ahmed Matiana have resigned after successfully contesting the district nazim election in Sheikhupura and Bahawalnagar, respectively.

Members of the Punjab Assembly: Syed Muhammad Taqleed Raza Shah, Major (retd) Asghar Hayat Kalyar, Malik Muhammad Waris Kallu, Malik Khalid Mehmood Watto Advocate, Ahsan Raza, Muhammad Saqlain Anwar, Chaudhry Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Amar Usman Adil, Arshad Mehmood Bagu Advocate, Muhammad Shoaib Siddiqi, Jehanzaib Rao, Mian Khalid Mehmood, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan Advocate, Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Abdul Razzaq Khan, Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad, Malik Noman Ahmad Langrial, Mumtaz Hussain, Dr Nazir Ahmed Mithu Dogar, Tahir Iqbal, Sardar Meer Badshah Khan Qaisarani, Sardar Amjad Hameed Khan Dasti, Malik Jawad Kamran Khar, Ahmed Karim Qaswar, Allah Wasaya Khan Alias Chunnu Khan, Yasir Arafat Khan, Muhammad Abdullah Wains, Muhammad Iqbal Rais and Joseph Hakim Din (seats reserved for non-Muslims).

Muhammad Tariq Khattak, Maulana Muhammad Mujahid Khan Al-Hussaini, Khalil Abbas Khan, Qurban Ali Khan, Saeed Khan, Alam Zeb, Nadir Shah, Dr Muhammad Salim, Amir Rehman, Syed Qalb-e-Hassan, Shad Muhammad Khan, Mian Nisar Gul, Attiq-ur-Rehman, Qari Muhammad Abdullah, Muhammad Idris, Syed Mazhar Ali Qasim, Wajih-uz-Zaman Khan, Al Hajia Ghazala Habib, Alhaj Muhammad Ayaz Khan, Maulana Dildar Ahmed, Maulana Latif-ur-Rehman, Israrullah Khan Gandapur, Syed Murid Kazim Shah, Maulana Qari Gul Azeem Khan, Hamid Shah, Habibur Rehman, Muhammad Amin, Moulana Nizamuddin, Maulana Irfanullah, Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Mufti Hussain Ahmed, Pir Muhammad Khan, Inayatullah, Hayat Khan, Sirajul Haq, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah and Miss Sabira Shakir (reserved seat for women) and Gorsam Lal and Felix Innocent (reserved seats for non-Muslims).
