ISLAMABAD, Oct 18: The Pakistan Meteorological Department spokesman has said that there are bright chances of sighting the Shawwal moon of the 1426 Hijri on the evening of Nov 3, subject to the confirmation by the central Ruet-i-Hilal committee.

Therefore, the first day of Shawwal would fall on Nov 4. As such, Eidul Fitr would be observed in the country on Friday.

He said that the age of the new moon should be more than 25 hours at the time of twilight for sighting it, whereas this time it would be more than 35 hours throughout the country.

Minimum duration of the new moon after sunset should be more than 41 minutes whereas at this occasion, it is mostly more than 45 minutes all over the country.

The angle of the new moon at the time of sunset and civil twilight is more than 5 degrees and 2 degrees, respectively, which is also a favourable factor for sighting of the Shawwal moon.—Online
