HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s senior superintendent of police has asked his superiors to recall one inspector and four sub-inspectors because they are not “capable” to serve in Hyderabad district and it is “in public interest” to send them away.

SSP Abdul Salam Shaikh has surrendered services of the five officials to the DIG of Hyderabad range but the DIG wants SSP to further discuss the issue, according to sources.

The SSP issued a charge-sheet against inspector Malik Qamar, sub inspectors Anwar Khanzada, Abdul Malik Abro and Zahid Iqbal Chandio on April 14, according to which Inspector Qamar, who was posted as in-charge of rapid response force in Hyderabad and district information cell (DIC), ‘misused’ his responsibility as DIC head by sharing locations of mobile phones with private parties, and minting money, thus he was incapable of any posting.

Previously, as SHO of A-section police station Latifabad in 2017, Qamar faced two inquiries which were conducted by Police Service of Pakistan cadre officers, Sarfaraz Virk and Amjad Farooq Buttar, who recommended his dismissal from service and no posting as SHO in future.

One inquiry pertained to extrajudicial action against Rehan Gaddi, brother of policeman Farhan Gaddi. Rehan was shot at and injured in a staged police encounter and the inquiry was conducted by ASP Buttar, recommending Qamar’s dismissal from service. Farhan was still pursuing direct complaint against Qamar in sessions court for injustice with his brother.

ASP Virk probed complaint lodged by Ms Mahwish, daughter of Yasin, which said that Qamar led a police team which barged into Yasin’s house after he was caught for possessing two pints of liquor and looted cash of Rs200,000, prize bonds worth Rs196,400, one 9mm pistol during the ‘search’.

He recommended that Qamar should not be posted as SHO in future. Even otherwise, Qamar could not be posted on the basis of a condition that policemen could not be posted in the district where they were domiciled.

According to the charge-sheet, SIP Anwar Khanzada was involved in illegal activities during his posting as SHO at various police stations. He had faced 11 show-cause notices. He managed to hush up case of recovery of 323 bags of gutka and mainpuri and manoeuvre adverse media coverage against police.

Likewise, SIP Abdul Malik Abro was instrumental in disturbing law and order through private persons in the wake of a dispute between car showroom owners in Qasimabad for which an inquiry was conducted by SP headquarters Aneel Hyder.

Hyder concluded in his report that some policemen were connected with car showroom whose owners were involved in monetary dispute and they exploited this burglary incident which the SHO concerned believed never took place.

SIP Zahid Iqbal Chandio was surrendered for constantly using political influence for his posting. He had a record of three major and 34 minor punishments, he patronized crime and faced eight show-cause notices against him, said the charge-sheet.
