BAJAUR: Prominent religious scholar and former JUI-F MNA Maulana Mohammad Sadiq passed away here on Friday, family and party sources confirmed.

They said that Maulana Sadiq, 80, had been on bed due to diabetes and high blood pressure for the last several weeks and died at his home on Friday morning.

An expert of religious education, the former MNA was the founder head of JUI-F in Bajaur and deputy chief of the former Fata as well. He was an active campaigner of Fata- KP merger and remained MNA from 2002 to 2007. He also remained president of the principals of religious seminaries in Bajaur for several years.

His funeral prayers were held at his family’s religious seminary Madressah Riazul Uloom in Chinaia Gai area in Mamond tehsil after Friday prayers which were attended by people from different walks of life.

The political, religious and social circles in the district have expressed their grief and sorrow over the demise of Maulana Mohammad Sadiq.

Meanwhile, Government Postgraduate College, Khar, principal Prof Mohammad Badshah died of coronavirus, family members and health officials said on Friday.

They said that Prof Badshah, 58, had been on the ventilator support at the district headquarters hospital, Khar, for the past 10 days and died late on Thursday night.

According to health officials, Mr Badshah was infected some two weeks ago and he was taken to the DHQ hospital after his condition deteriorated. He was laid to rest at his native Mokha area in Mamond teshil on Friday.

ARRESTED: The administration on Friday said to have arrested several vendors and butchers in Bajaur tribal district for violating the official price list.

According to a statement issued by the DC office here, the violators including 15 vendors and 14 butchers were arrested in Khar, Inayat Kallay and Sadiqabad bazaars of Khar tehsil.
