KARACHI, Oct 18: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has decided to contribute advertisement space worth Rs10 million towards relief efforts for earthquake victims.

The decision was taken in a joint meeting of the executive committee of the APNS and the standing committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Tuesday.

The meeting expressed profound grief over the tragedy.

The APNS will make an initial contribution of Rs10 million a month in the form of advertisements related to relief in member publications.

The meeting stressed the need for the media to play its role carefully, report the situation objectively, avoid sensationalism and highlight the genuine requirements of the victims.
