LAHORE, Oct 18: The superintendent of police accused of abduction-cum-rape in the Sonia Naz case on Tuesday surrendered before Lahore police. A senior police officer told Dawn that SP Khalid Abdullah gave in after his bail was cancelled by a Faisalabad court.
The SP has reportedly assured the police that his co-accused, inspector Jamshed Chishti, will also surrender on Wednesday.
The SP has been handed over to a three-man committee set up on a Supreme Court order to investigate the charges. The team comprises SPs Maj Mubashar, Imtiaz Habib and Bilal Kamyana.
The arrest has been made in a case registered by Sattukatla police. The victim had submitted in a complaint that on May 3 she was kidnapped by four gunmen from outside her Jauhar Town house in Lahore. They bundled her into a car and blindfolded her.
She said she was kept in detention for around three or four days. Faisalabad SP (investigation) Khalid Abdullah came there and tortured her.
She alleged that the SP tore her clothes and attempted to rape her. On failure, he ordered two of his men to assault her. One of the men whom she had seen in a court was SHO Jamshed Chishti.
Our Faisalabad correspondent adds: An additional district and sessions judge rejected the pre-arrest bail of SP Abdullah Khalid in a case registered for keeping Asim Yousaf, the husband of Sonia Naz, in illegal confinement and dereliction of duty on Tuesday.
His counsels presented a medical certificate seeking the court to extend the bail of their client. The prosecutors contested their plea.
Later, the Lahore police teams raided the official residence of the SP here for his arrest in Sonia Naz rape case but he was absent.
