KARACHI, Oct 18: The Provincial Transport Minister, Adil Siddiqui, has taken notice of violation of specified colours by mini-buses and coaches and directed the Transport Department and DIG Traffic to bring back all mini-buses and coaches plying in the city back to their original colour.
He issued the directive at a meeting with transporters on Monday.
The minister referred to public complaints regarding the menace of playing music in buses, mini-buses and coaches, undue use of shining colour strips, use of pressure horns, entry of male passengers to female compartments, overspeeding, overloading, etc.
He told the transporters and concerned authorities that no lawlessness would be tolerated in traffic-related matters.
Mr Siddiqui expressed concern over the rising traffic accidents and warned transporters to desist from rash driving and overtaking.
He warned that the government would otherwise initiate stringent measures to check accidents including passing a special law from the Sindh Assembly, which may envisage laws for cases under section 302.
He pointed out that security to the life and property of people was the government’s responsibility.
The minister made it clear on transporters that no strike would be tolerated from now, asking them to end the trend.
He directed the DIG Traffic that if his orders were not implemented, the SSPs of concerned areas would be transferred in the first stage. — APP
