Sachal’s urs from tomorrow

KHAIRPUR, Oct 17: The 184th urs of the Sufi saint, Hazrat Sachal Sarmast, will commence from the 14th of Ramazan at Daraza Sharif. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad will inaugurate the three-day urs celebrations by laying a chadar at the shrine of the Sufi saint. Devotees and followers from different parts of the country as well as India would attend the urs celebrations.

Built by the second ruler of the Khairpur State, Mir Rustam Ali Khan Talpur (1811-1842), the Sindhi kashi art work on the top of the main portion of the shrine stands damaged.

The Sachal Yadgar Committee has pointed out that the shrine building was getting weaker day by day.

On the other hand, there was no arrangement for accommodation of people, specially devotees, fakirs and singers who would gather at the shrine during urs. The singers usually perform under the sky.

The shrine, which is under the supervision of Auqaf department, lacks arrangement of drinking water for the devotees who usually purchase water during the urs.

BOOKED: An accused, Ali Khan Thebo, escaped from the judicial lock-up Thari Mirwah late on Sunday night. Ten police officials including in charge of the judicial lock-up were booked on Monday.
