KARACHI, Oct 17: Paying glowing tributes to Hakim Mohammad Said, speakers at a memorial meeting termed him a legend and a role model for generations to come. The memorial meeting was jointly organized by Hamdard Public School and Hamdard Village School, held on Monday at the Bilawal Stadium, Madinatal Hikmah, to commemorate the 7th death anniversary of Hakim Said.

The daughter of Hakim Said, also the president of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Sadia Rashid, was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering the chief guest and the director-general of Hamdard Foundation of Pakistan, Furqan Ahmed Shamsi, said that Hakim Mohammad Said loved Hamdard more than his kith and kin and as such he loved those children who were studying in the Hamdard’s educational institutions.

Remembering Hakim Said’s efforts he said that Hakim Mohammad Said established Hamdard in Pakistan in 1948 and from scratch he built a prestigious pharmaceutical industry of Hamdard and when this enterprise, which was his personal property, became a very lucrative business, he declared Hamdard a Waqf unto Almighty Allah on April 1, 1953.

According to this decision, the profits accruing to the Hamdard were to be spent entirely on welfare works, chiefly on the promotion of education, science and culture.

All the educational institutions, situated at the Madinatal Hikmah were running with the help of Hamdard, he added.

A number of students belonging to various institutes of Hamdard also spoke.—PPI
