BAHAWALPUR, Oct 17: As many as 54 truckloads of relief goods have so far been sent to Muzaffarabad, Mansehra and other quake-hit areas from here. District Coordination Officer Muhammad Ashraf told Dawn here on Sunday that the district government had sent 35 trucks, the army 10 and the rangers nine.

He said there was a tremendous response from the people on the government’s appeals for donations.

The DCO said over 100 trucks would be sent to the quake-hit areas in coming days.

Meanwhile, the district officer (health) has sent a medical team along with an ambulance to the quake-affected areas.

GENDER JUSTICE: The Punjab government has launched a pilot project of gender justice in Bahawalpur and Attock districts.

Launching the project here on Saturday, Punjab Local Government Director-General Muhammad Shehbaz said it had been started in collaboration with UNDP at union council level.

He said the project had been designed to provide people with an opportunity for the amicable settlement of their mutual disputes, including civil, criminal, revenue and family. He said the plan would help people resolve their problems on their own with the interference of elders of the locality - i.e. - members of the ‘Musalihat Anjuman.’
