GUJRANWALA, Oct 16: Scores of people have criticized the Punjab Education Department for displaying signboards in schools against corporal punishment.

Demanding removal of such signboards at a meeting held here on Sunday, Parents Association president Noor Ahmad and others said students were happy at this move of the government, committing indiscipline with impunity.

The participants alleged that the government would spoil the young generation because of its wrong decisions.

SUICIDE: A woman committed suicide over a monetary issue at Garjakh here on Sunday.

Reports said Alia, mother of two children, quarrelled with her husband Shehzad Ahmad over expenses and later swallowed poison.

She died on way to DHQ hospital.

INFANT DIES: An infant died on Sunday due to non-availability of ambulance in Kamoki.

Reports said parents and relatives of the infant tried their best to get an ambulance but in vain. As a result of which they hired a car but the baby died on way to DHQ hospital.

Later, they staged a protest demonstration against the administration for not providing them with an ambulance.

When contacted, the local administration said the army had taken away all the ambulances to the quake-hit areas.
