KARACHI, Oct 16: The Sindh Education Minister, Dr Hamida Khuhro, has decided to arrange a conference in the mid of November to discuss ways for the promotion of education in Sindh.

She was talking to a delegation of the Madressah Mazharul Uloom Khado Karachi, led by Moulana Mahmood Hassan Khadawala, here at her residence on Sunday.

The minister said that the society at large and parents specially were to be motivated for taking active part for the promotion of education.

She also said that the criticism on madressahs was also to be addressed and called upon the delegates to come forward with constructive suggestions for the reformation of madressahs.

On the occasion it was decided to arrange an educational conference by the education department in which educationists and scholars will be invited to discuss the present state of education and plans for future strategy.

In the meeting, the delegation demanded for a girl’s college in Khada Nawabad area of Lyari along with the availability of required teaching staff in all the educational institutes of Lyari.

The delegation also presented various recommendations with regards to the promotion of education, which included incentives to the teachers.

Besides, Dr Khuhuro has welcomed the statement of the newly-elected nazims that they would give special attention to the education and health sectors and hoped that they truly would render services to the much neglected education sector at the district levels.

She said that after the devolution plan, school and college education was the responsibility of the district governments.

The minister said that there was a special need to monitor the schools with special attention to teacher absenteeism and proper utilization of funds.

She took serious notice of the incident in which school children were injured due to collapse of the roof of the Government Primary School Village Bijoro Taulka Sajawal in district Thatta.

Dr Khuhro called report from the EDO and said that the officials of the education works department would be taken to task on the poor quality of the construction of the said school.—PPI
