KARACHI, Oct 16: The Pakistan Rice Syndicate (PRS) has urged the Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) to transfer the technology of ‘vitaminized rice’ to rice processors who are prepared to donate substantial quantity of rice for the quake victims.

In a press release issued here on Sunday, Zulfikar Thaver, Convener of the PRS invited attention of Dr Anwarul Haq, Chairman of the PCSIR, to the samples he was shown during his visit to council’s laboratories which had been developed by the PCSIR. Mr Thaver recalled that it was the time the technology was passed on to rice processors for ultimate delivery as donation to quake victims.

He observed that vitaminized rice would not require any other ingredient as it contained essential substances to make it palatable. It simply needed water and cooking and could be served as a whole meal without being supplemented by any curry, gravy, etc. making it easily consumable.

Many rice processors and exporters are willing to a donate substantial quantity of rice to quake victims and PCSIR could play its due role in helping them donate a much needed commodity, he added.—PPI
