KARACHI, Oct 16: A fire broke out in a chemical warehouse in Site area on Sunday, which was put out in nine hours by fire fighters. No casualty was reported.

According to fire brigade sources, soon after they received information of the fire, six fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site.

After a nine-hour struggle, the fire fighters controlled the fire but 500 chemical storage cans were gutted. The warehouse contained 60,000 chemical storage cans at the time of the incident.

The cause of fire could not be ascertained immediately. The warehouse owners are trying to estimate the losses, which may run into millions of rupees.

ACCIDENTS: An unidentified man died in a hit-and-run accident on Super highway near Sabzi Mandi on Sunday.

Police said the victim, who appeared to be a beggar, was crossing the highway near Sabzi Mandi when a speeding car knocked him down. Police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

In another incident, a 40-year-old man was crushed by a locomotive on the city’s outskirts near Ghaghhar Pathak on Sunday.

ARRESTED: The police on Sunday arrested a gang of three suspects who used to rob expatriates and foreigners travelling in radio cabs.

The arrests came after a police encounter with them in Baloch Colony on Sunday, police said.

They were identified as Ali Muhammad, Hasan Qasim and Adnan Hasan.

A stolen car (AFU-994) and two pistols were also recovered from them.
