ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first television host, anchor and artist Kanwal Naseer passed away on Thursday. She was 70.

She was the one who spoke to viewers along with Tariq Aziz during the first ever transmission of PTV in 1964, saying Yeah Pakistan Television Hai (This is Pakistan Television).

Kanwal was suffering form diabetes and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Pakistan Institute of Medial Sciences (Pims) for the last three days.

Her mother Mohni Hameed was also an artist and was awarded with Sitara-i-Imtiaz twice.

Kanwal Naseer, the recipient of Lifetime Achieving Award, is survived by her son Ali Naseer and three daughters - Saman Jawad, Shazaeh Naseer and Maniha Naseer - to mourn her death.

Her son-in-law Ahmed Jawad, central information secretary of PTI, told Dawn that funeral will be held at 2pm on Friday (today) at the H-11 graveyard.
