ISLAMABAD: Sarina Isa, wife of Justice Qazi Faez Isa, on Monday moved contempt charges before the Supreme Court against Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and sought direction for the closure of his Twitter account as well his removal from the office of the ministry.

“Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and others in his government want Justice Isa not to hold his government accountable,” stated the contempt of court petition.

The petition said the minister from his official Twitter account tweeted on March 19 stating he had been hearing an “under trial judge” for the last one week and that Justice Isa’s “godfather (is) Iftikhar Chaudhry” and if Justice Isa was fond of politics he should resign and contest elections to ascertain his popularity.

“He then sarcastically dedicated a poem to my husband,” the petition said, adding the Twitter account of the minister showed that it had 3.8 million followers.

When contacted, the minister expressed the hope that the Supreme Court will not even entertain the petition and if he was called truth will be told and that he was also confident that his appearance will be streamed live.

The petition of Ms Isa alleged that the minister through his tweet confirmed that secret cameras had been installed in the courtroom because he was hearing all that happened in the courtroom despite never once having attended a single hearing.

“My husband remains a judge of the Supreme Court and is not an under trial prisoner,” the petition explained.

By referring to Justice Isa as an “under trial judge”, the minister has committed contempt of this court and its sitting judge, she argued.

And categorising a former chief justice of this court as a ‘godfather’, a term used for criminal syndicates and mafia bosses, also constitutes gross contempt of this court, the petition argued.
