KARACHI: A 70-year-old man was taken into custody over suspicion of subjecting a six-year-old girl to criminal assault in his home in the Korangi area on Sunday.

No case was registered against him till late in the evening.

The area police said that the girl was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a medical examination.

Area police officer Mazhar Shah quoted the girl’s family as saying that she had left her home to buy juice for guests from a nearby shop. When she returned after half an hour or so, she looked ‘terrified’. When her mother asked her about why she was so terrified, the girl indicated towards the home of their neighbour. The mother said the 70-year-old neighbour forcibly took her into his home and might have subjected her to criminal assault.

The officer said the suspect lived alone in home as his family lived in Faisalabad. He said an investigation into the matter was under way.
