ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: Local and foreign oil and gas exploration companies have contributed Rs374 million in the president’s relief fund to help the victims of Saturday’s deadly earthquake.
State Minister for Petroleum Nasir Mangal handed over a cheque for Rs370 million in this behalf to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday.
The contributions, both in rupees and US dollar, amounted to Rs303 million and $1.1 million, respectively. It included OGDC’s share, Rs56 million; Parco, Rs41 million; SNGPL Rs20 million; SSGC Rs20 million; Government Holdings Rs10 million; PPL Rs21 million; PSO Rs20 million; PMDC Rs10 million; Petroleum Exploration Company, Rs1 million; OMV $500,000; ENI Generation Company $500,000; Tullow Irish Company, $100,000.
The Orient Petroleum Incorporated (OPI) has separately donated Rs4 million towards the president’s relief fund for the help of Saturday’s killer quake victims.
Besides, the OPI employees have also donated their one-day salary in the fund. The company has also sent consignments of relief goods o the affected areas.
The MOL Group of Hungary has also separately donated $500,000 in the president’s fund and as such the total donated amount comes to Rs400 million.
MOL Pakistan a subsidiary of the Group has pledged Rs12 million for President’s relief fund, Rs6 million for immediate material relief activities through various channels including personal participation of its employees and another Rs12 million for constructing a medical centre in Balakot and operating it on a long-term basis in partnership with a local community based organization.
BP: Global multinational BP plc has donated $1 million (Rs60 million) to support Pakistan disaster relief efforts.
The donation will be made through the BP foundation, and will be administered through UNICEF and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
In addition to the committed $1 million, BP Pakistan will make an immediate donation of US $ 200,000 (Rs. 12 million) to the President’s relief Fund. To further augment the relief effort, all global donations made and collected by BP employees for this disaster will be matched by the company.
Pharma Bureau: The Pharma Bureau of 24 researched-based international pharmaceutical companies operating in Pakistan Friday announced donations of high quality life saving medicines worth Rs115 million to various collection depots of the health ministry and other medical centres.
PTC: Pakistan Tobacco Company started large-scale medical and aid supply operation in Balakot, Batal, Shagy and Battagram for earthquake victims.
Jeremy Pike, CEO, Pakistan Tobacco Company visited the affected areas and monitored the relief work and distributed blankets, cooking oil, milk and juices among the earthquake victims. During the visit he visited the PTC medical camps in the affected areas and observed the relief work.
Mr Pike visited Balakot and met the earthquake victims and said that PTC has also donated Rs10 million towards the President’s Relief Fund for earthquake victims.
Six PTC ambulances with paramedics and medicines along with doctors & dispensers are operating in Govt. Degree College in Balakot, Civil Hospital in Batal, and in various areas of Balakot city.
DHAI: Defence Housing Authority Islamabad (DHAI) has donated Rs5 million in “President Relief Fund” for the earthquake victims and also established a relief camp at DHA Islamabad.
