LAHORE, Oct 14: Punjab Health Services Director-General Dr Aslam Chaudhry has directed all district headquarters hospitals in the province to spare beds and make available required facilities to treat earthquake victims.
Dr Chaudhry issued the directive after visiting DHQ hospitals of Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala. He said each DHQ hospital had been asked to reserve 100 to 150 beds.
The DGHS office has already sent medicines worth Rs4 million to affected areas in AJK and the NWFP. The office has also sent anti-virus medicines worth Rs1 million to control epidemics and two ambulances and as many trucks for the transportation of patients and their relatives to nearby hospitals.
LGH: Fourteen (14) more earthquake victims have been admitted to the neurosurgery ward of the Lahore General Hospital.
They were brought here from Ayub Medical Complex, Abbotabad, on Friday under the direct supervision of hospital doctors. With most of them having backbone injuries, they underwent CT Scan and MRI.
Of the 37 patients admitted to the hospital so far, five have been discharged after initial treatment.
LGH neurosurgery department’s Prof Tariq Salahuddin said the Abbotabad Medical Complex doctors had contacted the LGH with a request that the 14 patients needed specialized neurosurgery services. Consequently, an LGH team left for Abbotabad and brought them to Lahore by ambulances.
Patients’ relatives have also been accommodated in the hospital musafir khana.
Patients Ishaq, 40, and Mrs Aqeel, 25, told reporters that they had jumped out of their houses when earthquake hit the country and had their legs broken.
NURSES: The LGH nurses and nursing students have decided to observe Eidul Fitr with simplicity and contribute money to the welfare fund created for the earthquake victims.
This was stated by nursing staff after organizing Yaum-i-Dua in the hospital.
Meanwhile, Punjab health secretary Javed Malik visited the earthquake victims at the LGH on Friday evening.
