A special session of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) was held to review the country's coronavirus situation. According to a press release, rising disease trend was a matter of serious concern.

"A sharp rise in national positivity is visible, and is hovering around five to six per cent. Major contributors are Punjab, Islamabad and few cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. All federating units have been asked to take immediate actions for the strict implementation of SOPs," the statement said.

The NCOC appreciated the steps taken by Punjab for curbing the spread of the virus. "However, further steps for disease control, including expanded lockdowns in various cities of Punjab, Islamabad and certain cities of KP, are under consideration."

The forum also discussed the spread of new virus strains in the country. "Further curbs on international travel from certain countries with high prevalence of the South African and Brazilian virus were considered. A decision will be taken after consultation with all stakeholders," the statement said.
