PESHAWAR: Awami National Party has expressed its concern over the growing inter-tribe disputes in the merged districts and demanded of the provincial government to take immediate action for putting an end to the armed clashes.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, ANP’s committee for merged districts, headed by MPA Nisar Mohmand, said that different tribes in Bajaur and North Waziristan had developed serious land disputes which resulted into death and injuries to many people.

“The tribes are using heavy weapons against each other for the past about one month, but the government is yet to play its role seriously for restoration of peace,” the ANP lawmaker said and urged the administration in relevant areas to ensure land reforms to put an end to these disputes.

Mr Mohmand asked the government to release the promised funds for development of the merged districts to remove unrest among the people.

He said the federal government had announced a comprehensive package for uplift of the merged districts, but it failed to fulfil its commitment so far.

Other members of the committee Misal Khan Orakzai, Taj Wazir, Nisar Dawar and Sheikh Jahanzada demanded of the government to focus on provision of health and education facilities in the merged districts.
