Mahmood steals limelight

KARACHI, Oct 13: A splendid all-round performance by first-class cricketer Mahmood Hamid inspired Pak Gymkhana to a crushing six-wicket victory over hosts Karachi Gymkhana in the 20th KG Ramazan Cricket Festival at the KG Ground on Thursday.

The diminutive Mahmood claimed three for 32 with his occasional off-spinners as Karachi Gymkhana were all out for 142 off the penultimate delivery of their 25-over innings.

Veteran Nadeem Musa, however, excelled with a 43-ball 61 that included five fours and one six. Medium-pacer Farman Shah also bowled well to grab three for 26.

Pak Gymkhana reeled off the required runs in the 21st over thanks to Mahmood, who blasted six boundaries and a six in scoring 70 off 56 deliveries. Mahmood and Nisar Abbas (33) put on 70 without being separated.

Summarised scores:

KARACHI GYMKHANA 142 in 24.5 overs (Nadeem Musa 61; Farman Shah 3-26, Mahmood Hamid 3-32); PAK GYMKHANA 143-4 in 20.2 overs (Mahmood Hamid 70 not out, Nisar Abbas 33 not out).

Friday’s fixture: Malir Gymkhana v A.O.CC.
