ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: As many as 2,000 earthquake victims have been treated at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) since last Saturday when an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hit the NWFP, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad.
According to the list of patients provided by the Pims authorities on Thursday, there were 423 children among the victims admitted to Children’s Hospital out of which 152 had so far been operated upon.
Among these patients, 50 died of their injuries, including two children, while 29 children were referred to National Institute of Health and 15 to KRL for further treatment.
YAR MOHAMMAD RIND: Minister of States and Frontier Regions Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind has directed the chief commissioner Afghan Refugees, Islamabad, to make available nine field hospitals for providing urgent relief and medical facilities to the earthquake victims.
According to a press release, each mobile field hospital is well-equipped with all latest operational instruments.
SAUDI FIELD HOSPITAL: A Royal Saudi Air Force C-130 aircraft carrying provisions for a 50-bed field hospital and a Saudi cargo airliner arrived in Islamabad on Thursday afternoon.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Khusro Bakhtyar was present at the airport to receive the equipment and goods.
Dr Tariq, Director-General of Emergency, Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia, is leading the health emergency team.—APP
