Published October 14, 2005

KARACHI, Oct 13: The Sindh Health Minister, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, has directed senior health authorities of the province to investigate facts regarding the prevalence and intensity of a strange but fatal disease effecting inhabitants of Kacho in district Dadu.

The health minister on Thursday, taking notice of news reports regarding the unidentified health condition, has asked the concerned officials to make immediate arrangement for treatment for those inflicted with it.

The EDO Health of Dadu has also been asked to investigate what led to the death of six people and impairment of another 15, presumably due to the disease, causes of which are yet to be ascertained.

He also took serious notice of the fact that a fake doctor, Zaheer Abbas, serving at the government owned Thari Mirwah - Khairpur, has asked the EDO Health, Khairpur, to make necessary investigation as to how a non-medical person was allowed to play with precious human lives.

Meanwhile, explanation has also been sought from the EDO Health Karachi, Dr Abdul Haq, following a complaint of his inappropriate attitude and misbehaviour with a lady health worker.

The EDO Health, Karachi, has also been asked to provide a detail report, within three days, regarding alleged extortion of money from those applying for drug licenses.

Directives have also been issued to the Medical Superintendent of the Civil Hospital Karachi regarding poor hygienic and sanitary conditions in various wards and departments of the hospital.—APP
