NAWABSHAH, Oct 12: The senior civil judge of Nawabshah on Wednesday dismissed the petition filed by the taluka council of Daulatpur against the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The Daulatpur taluka council constructed a shopping centre having 32 shops, while the NHA claimed that the centre was constructed without authority’s approval and 16 shops were constructed on the NHA land.

The taluka council in the suit stated that they had purchased a plot of land from the irrigation department and constructed a shopping centre thereon and that the National Highway Authority was bent upon to demolish the shopping centre.

The court after recording the evidence and hearing arguments, dismissed the suit filed by the taluka council of Daulatpur, holding that the NHA has proved that the taluka council illegally encroached upon land belonging to NHA without any justification.

PROTEST: Members of the Nawabshah District Bar Association boycotted court proceedings and staged a protest demonstration against increase in petroleum prices opposite the local press club. On the call of Pakistan Bar Council, lawyers led by District Bar Association president Raheem Bux Jamali protested at the press club.
