LAHORE, Oct 12: Punjab PML Secretary-General and Communications Minister Chaudhry Zaheeruddin says the ruling party has so far dispatched 21 truckloads of relief goods to the quake-hit areas.

At a meeting of the party office-bearers here on Wednesday, he said Parliamentary Health Secretary Dr Farzana Nazir was leading a 17-member team of doctors in Muzaffarabad and Bagh districts.

He directed district and tehsil bodies of the party to stop Iftar parties and divert the funds to the relief work.

Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan has reached Mansehra to supervise and take part in relief activities there.

The party has also opened an account (No 0613-01-01-3488-4) with the Muslim Commercial Bank (Civic Centre, Islamabad branch) and has appealed to the masses to donate generously for the quake victims.

It has dispatched five truckloads of relief goods from Lahore Cantonment area while relief activities from other areas and districts is also continuing.

The Jamaat-i-Islami has so far set up 1,000 donation centres in Punjab, while scores of its mobile units are also collecting eatables, cash and clothes for the quake victims.

According to it, they have dispatched 100 truckloads of relief goods to the affected areas.

A meeting of the party’s provincial office-bearers was told that many areas were still inaccessible due to blockade of roads and rains.

They appealed that volunteers from across Punjab must come forward to help in rescue activities in AJK and NWFP.

Punjab PML-N secretary-general Zaeem Qadri visited various donation collection centres established by the party in city localities and directed that all the goods must be delivered to the affected people within 24 hours.

The Pakistan Society for Rehabilitation of the Disabled claims it has transported small generators, emergency lights, sterilizing equipment, plaster bandages, crutches, splints, blankets and other relief goods to Bagh district while an orthopaedic surgeon and four doctors are also being sent to the area for carrying out minor operations.
