SAHIWAL, Oct 12: The provincial agriculture minister, an ex-minister and four Punjab Assembly members on Tuesday alleged massive irregularities in the recently-concluded elections.

Speaking at a press conference after an Iftar dinner, they demanded that the elections for the district and tehsil nazim slots should be cancelled and a bill concerning ban on “purchase of votes” be passed in the assembly.

Punjab Agriculture Minister Muhammad Arshad Khan Lodhi, former provincial minister Malik Iqbal Ahmad Langrial, MPAs Pir Walayat Shah Khagga, Rana Aftab Ahmad, Muhammad Arshad Jat and Malik Nauman Ahmad Langrial, claimed that a majority of the elected union council nazims was with them and nazim-elect Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan had no support of the elected nazims.

Therefore, they said, the house would be paralyzed and the nazim forced to run away.

The minister pointed out that three cases of vote purchase were registered against Rai Hassan. He said Naveed Aslam Khan Lodhi, who had won the votes of the honest people, is the opposition leader of the house.

The elected representatives pledged to move the election commission to register their protest.

ARREST: The Elite Force, assisted by villagers, arrested two robbers following an hour-long encounter on Tuesday night.

Reports said Mahmood Ahmad Saghla, a farmer of Chak 56-GD, was going to Sahiwal city by his motorcycle (SLA-2356) when three armed men stopped him and drove away with his two-wheeler near Chak 69/4-R.

The farmer raised an alarm in response to which the villagers and the Elite Force officials chased the robbers and surrounded them. An exchange of fire took place after which two of the outlaws, Zafar Ahmad and Nawaz, were arrested. Third accomplice, however, escaped.

The Noorshah police registered a case under section 392, 44 of PPC.

ABDUCTION: Two women were abducted in Sahiwal areas on Tuesday night.

A resident of Chak 96/9-L was driven away to an unknown place by Zaman and four others while a Christian woman was abducted by Maqsood Nanha.

Relevant police stations instituted cases under the Hudood Ordinance.
