LARKANA: Qazi Maqsood Gul was not only a poet, but was an institution in his person who served Sindhi literature, culture and education selflessly.

This was stated by artist Qazi Khizer Hayat while presiding over a literary gathering held in the memory of prominent poet and writer Qazi Maqsood Gul here in Bhitai Adabi Hall under the aegis of literary department of Arts Council of Pakistan Larkana the other day.

He said the poet had got a trait to write with equal ease and command poetry and prose and also knew the art of translation.

He would long be remembered for his selfless contribution to promotion of literature and language, he said.

Dr Riazat Buriro said that besides being a poet and writer, Gul was a good organizer as well. He was an indefatigable person who did not lag behind in doing creative work.

Prof Jam Jamali, former secretary of Arts Council, said Qazi Gul was a revolutionary poet in whose poetry message of resistance to injustice and inequality was obvious. Ahmed Ali Sabir Chandio said Gul was the poet of life and love. He was a good man as well.

Abdul Qadir Jagirani, poet and central auditor of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, said he was like a flower in the garden of literature whose fragrance would continue to live in the centuries to come.

Poet Saqi Abro said the poetry of Gul was a priceless asset of Sindhi literature. Prof Rizwan Gul demanded of the departments concerned to publish the books written by Maqsood Gul.
