GILGIT, Oct 11: Gunmen killed one person and injured seven others by ambushing a private vehicle on Tuesday morning in Baseen neighbourhood. Police sources said immedialtely after the death of Farman Ali, a former official of revenue department, the city plunged into chaos and almost all markets, shops, traffic, schools and offices remained closed instantly.

The injured identified as Ali Mohammad, Shakoor Mohammad, Muzaffar Ali, Syed Akbar Hussain, Mazloom Hussain, Walayat and one of their alleged attackers Zakir Shah had been admitted to DHQ hospital Gilgit. One of the attackers was apprehended by the Rangers but three managed to swim across River Gilgit and fled after targeting the vehicle.

The sources said two identity cards of different places were recovered from the pocket of alleged attacker Zakir Shah along with a visiting card of newly-elected Kohistan District Nazim Dr Saifur Rahman.

The rangers, police and FC enhanced patrolling and took hold of the DHQ hospital Gilgit after an incident of firing in which a jawan of Rangers was shot and injured by a youth.

The sources said the rangers on duty arrested the accused on the spot for shooting at the ranger sepoy.

In another incident Mohammad Khan, son of Suleman, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Naurote (Baseen). The police have arrested a number of suspects.

In a similar clash between the students of a local college and the police, at least one student was injured as the students resisted police’s attempt to detain one their fellow students in Kashroot.

DEMAND: The relatives of the earthquake victims have appealed to the government for plying more flights to the Northern Areas and to speed up work on the restoration of KKH for traffic which could not be restored after three days.
