Unhygienic eateries

Published February 15, 2021

IT seems as if people have forgotten the importance of food hygiene. And while people are encouraged to comply with Covid-19 SOPs, they are doing the exact opposite, especially the people working at eateries.

Recently, I had the misfortune of stopping at a restaurant in Hub city for lunch. What I saw there made me more worried than I have ever been with regards to unhygienic conditions in restaurants.

The waiter put all the dirty spoons and plates in a water tub and took them all out without even cleaning them. He served me the food in one of the said plates along with a spoon. When I told him that my plate was still oily, he refused to clean it.

Such irresponsible behaviour on the part of eateries is condemnable. They are not only spreading coronavirus, but also other diseases that can prove fatal, such as hepatitis and diarrhoea.

The government should intervene and ensure that these eateries comply with safety regulations.
